Competing in his rookie INDY NXT by Firestone season in select events, Evagoras Papasavvas took on one of the most iconic tracks on the calendar this weekend — Road America. Starting 13th in Saturday’s 20-lap main event, the young Ohio native showed poise and race craft to gain a position and finish 12th in the highly competitive field, and in only his third event.
“Getting the chance to race at Road America in INDY NXT is something I’ve looked forward to for a long time,” expressed Papasavvas. “It’s always special to return to a track where I’ve had success before—I was fast here in USF2000, and the confidence came back this weekend. I wish we had a little more in qualifying, but we were solid in the race and kept it clean.”
Reflecting on the weekend, Papasavvas added, “Overall, the race was pretty good considering all that happened during the weekend. We were chasing the car around a lot, trying to optimize our setup. I think there’s a little bit we need to work on with the car, but I’m confident we’ll figure it out for next year when we come back. That was the best I could manage with what I had—I made a few passes, so overall, it was a solid race, and I was able to bring it home in one piece and gain more experience.”
While the result didn’t reflect the potential he’s shown this season, the outing marked another step in Papasavvas’ growth and resilience as he continues to adapt to the demands in INDY NXT. Next up for Evagoras is a return to his home track, the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, over the Fourth of July weekend. With testing experience there from earlier this season and strong local support, Papasavvas is eager to carry his momentum into another competitive outing.
Papasavvas added, “Mid-Ohio is my home track, and I love everything about it. We had a great test there back in May, and I can’t wait to get back on track in front of family and friends. It’s going to be a special weekend.”
