Making his debut in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship at Road America, rookie Evagoras Papasavvas will return to the seat this weekend in his home event. Set to take on the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, Evagoras will be back with the Jay Howard Driver Development program in the #6 entry.
“It was a good start to the weekend with a P13 result in the first official practice and sixth in the second session. We worked hard with the team, and we got a very good car setup by the end of the day. Unfortunately, the rest of the Road America event did not go as planned. Challenges during the qualification sessions put me in a disadvantage for the races. A big incident in race one put me on the sidelines for the weekend, but I was still able to learn a considerable amount in our first time in the car.” explained Papasavvas. “A huge thanks to the JHDD guys for all the hard work and support to get the car built and ready to go again and for my partners for sticking with me as we make the transition to the Road to Indy full-time.”
Testing in both a Ligier JSF4 and a Tatuus USF-15 through the middle part of 2021, Evagoras was involved in a karting incident in November that required surgery and a rehabilitation period. Getting the ok from all doctors in May, Evagoras completed a test session at the Autobahn Country Club before heading to the four-mile Road America.
Evagoras continued, “The test went well. Honestly everything at Road America was going as expected for my first event, my first real race in a car, and at a track that I had no experience at. The field is so competitive, so I was not expecting to win, but to learn with each passing lap. Now, I more understand what to expect, am going to a track that I know and love, so my goals have been reset for this coming weekend.”
With a triple header race weekend on the docket, Evagoras will hit the track on Thursday morning for three test sessions throughout the day. Friday will feature the one and only official practice session of the weekend, qualifying and the first wheel-to-wheel race while Saturday will be the home of races two and three.
