This past weekend, INDY NXT by Firestone headed to the picturesque Barber Motorsports Park for Round 2 of the season. Making his series debut, Evagoras Papasavvas, driving for HMD Motorsports, delivered an impressive performance, finishing second and stepping onto the podium in his first INDY NXT race.
Papasavvas faced an early challenge in Practice 1 on Friday when contact with the barrier in the second-to-last corner prematurely ended his session. Undeterred, he bounced back in Practice 2 on Saturday, clocking the 11th-fastest time. He then carried that momentum into qualifying, securing an impressive third-place starting position for his series debut.
In Sunday’s 35-lap race, Papasavvas capitalized on his strong grid position, moving up to second early on. He held firm through multiple restarts and fended off pressure from behind to secure his first career INDY NXT podium.
“It felt incredible to make my INDY NXT debut this weekend, and even better to earn a podium on debut,” said Papasavvas. “The car was quick all weekend, and we executed when it mattered most. A huge thank you to everyone at HMD for their hard work and support.”
Papasavvas, who is competing in select INDY NXT races this season with HMD Motorsports, will return to the track next weekend for Rounds 3 and 4 at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“I’m excited to go racing next weekend at IMS,” Papasavvas added. “It’s a track I know well from my time in USF Pro Championships, and after a strong weekend at Barber, I’m confident we can build on this momentum.”
Papasavvas will hit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course on Friday morning for the weekend’s sole practice session, followed by qualifying in the afternoon. Race 1 is set for Friday evening at 7:00 PM EST, with Race 2 wrapping up the weekend on Saturday at 1:00 PM EST.
