USF2000 Presented by Continental Tire traveled to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin for rounds nine and ten of the championship at Road America. Evagoras Papasavvas, driving for the potent Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) program, fought back from a tough Saturday to bring home a good result on Sunday and keep his championship hopes alive.

After the series test sessions on Thursday, Papasavvas set the ninth-fastest time in the only official practice session of the weekend. His pace continued in qualifying, where, due to some car handling challenges, he was only able to set the ninth-quickest time again, less than a tenth away from the car ahead and would line up for race one on the inside of row five. However, Papasavvas was unable to run in race one, which was delayed to Saturday evening, due to an ECU issue his #6 JHDD machine and was classified at the bottom of the results sheet.

“Saturday was a tough day, first with the rain delay and then with the ECU issue,” Papasavvas explained. “The team did everything they could, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get the car going and join the race. It was frustrating, to say the least, costing us significant championship points.”

In race two, which was rescheduled to Sunday morning due to the deluge of rain in Wisconsin, Papasavvas ran well, fighting up front throughout the race and ultimately reaching the checkered flag in fifth position.

“It was nice to bring home a solid result in race two, after not being able to run in race one, even though our straight-line speed was not what we expected,” Papasavvas added. “I’m glad we have at least one solid result to show for it. A huge thank you to everyone at JHDD for their hard work this weekend. We will be working hard to get ready to run up front at Mid-Ohio.”

Papasavvas and the rest of the USF2000 field head to Mid-Ohio next for rounds 11, 12 and 13 of the season July 4-7.
