The FIA World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Sao Paulo has passed, leaving just three rounds in the 2024 season. Isotta Fraschini Duqueine Team has been showing significant progress with their driving trio of JK Vernay, Carl Bennett, and Antonio Serravalle, but they hit a snag this past weekend, having to retire the car due to an engine issue.
A tough qualifying session put the #11 toward the tail of the field for the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo race ahead of them Sunday morning. After a great start and up two positions, Carl Bennett took his stint in the car and brought the #11 into the pits during a caution period with about two and a half hours left in the race. Looking to do a routine pit stop, the team was forced to retire the car due to an incurable engine issue.
“We had a great run,” explained Bennett. “We moved up a few positions early on, but ultimately were plagued with engine gremlins. We were making progress and hoped to gain even more knowledge and experience but that is racing. We’ll put it behind us and keep pushing on to the next one.”
Carl Bennett and the rest of the Isotta Fraschini Duqueine team will pick back up in just over a month at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas over the August 30-September 1 weekend. Taking on round six of the FIA World Endurance Championship, Bennett and Serravalle come from the North American continent and will be looking for a strong performance in their home event. Before then, Bennett will rejoin COOL Racing in the #47 car at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium from August 23-25 for the next round of the European Le Mans Series.
