Descending on the GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, North Carolina for the final round of the 2021 United States Pro Kart Series (USPKS), Supertune closed the weekend with a pair of Mini Swift victories. With the team’s results on the shoulders of Diego Ardiles, the young gun put on a last to first performance in Saturday’s racing action and made his job much easier on Sunday with a qualifying effort that saw him closer to the front of the grid.
“What a job by Diego,” explained Ben Cruttenden. “If there were any concerns on the speed of the OTK Mini kart, I think we proved that it has what it takes to win. Congrats to Diego on a solid season, great event and being named the Mini Swift Vice Champion.”
After a flat tire plagued Saturday morning’s qualifying session, Ardiles started Saturday’s prefinal from the tail of the field and when the green flag flew, it was the start of one of the most epic drives in karting. Advancing forward to near the top-ten in the prefinal, Ardiles took the lead late in the race in Sunday’s main event and never looked back. Taking the checkered flag and scoring another win on the season, Ardiles would look to carry that momentum into Sunday. Returning to the track Sunday, Ardiles repeated his race winning performance to double up on the weekend. Topping the podium blocks for the second day in a row, Ardiles swept the main events during the final USPKS weekend of the season.
As arguably one of the top Mini drivers in the country, Supertune and Diego Ardiles will shift their focus to the remainder of the 2021 season. Looking to hit the jackpot in Las Vegas, Ardiles will first compete in the ROK Cup USA ROK Vegas event at Planet Hollywood, before taking on the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals at the RIO All-Suites Hotel and Casino.
Cruttenden added, “Diego is determined and that makes us more determined and confident as a team. We are going to give him everything we have to finish the final two races of the year unbeaten.”
