Turning heads at the first round of the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Winter Series, DCT SpeedSport returned for rounds thee and four and found their way to the podium. Competing in the KA100 Junior division with a pair of drivers, the DCT SpeedSport team managed to put their OTK Tony Kart chassis on the podium in a sea of other branded models.
“It was a really good weekend for our program, especially with the level of competition,” explained Doug Evans. “It is difficult to compete against the factory programs that attend these events but to have one of our drivers lead the main event and be on the podium twice is a huge accomplishment for our efforts.”
Leading the way for the Georgia based squad was team driver Mateo Rubio-Luengo. Flexing his muscles in the talent filled KA100 Junior category, Rubio-Luengo drove to a pair of second place results. Rebounding from a disappointing tenth place qualifying on Saturday, Rubio-Luengo drove to seventh in the prefinal before battling his way to second in the main event. Showing great pace and consistency throughout Sunday, a trio of second place finishes in qualifying, prefinal and main event greeted the young DCT pilot.
Joining Rubio-Luengo in the top-ten was Raiden Nicol, who managed to garner sixth and eighth place results in rounds three and four. Always a threat, Nicol was the biggest mover in Sunday’s final to gain six positions, narrowly missing a top-five finish. Courtesy of his determination and solid drive on Sunday, Raiden earned a sixth place in the championship while Rubio-Luengo ended his SKUSA Winter Series title tied for third in the championship points battle.
With their winter karting season now complete, DCT SpeedSport shifts their focus to local and summer programs.
