Competing in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, BN Racing’s David Malukas had a weekend of progression. Improving his race results from his qualifying positions, Malukas chalked up a sixth place finish on Saturday and improved to fourth on Sunday, narrowly missing the final step of the podium.
“It was a good learning weekend as we had some new staff in place and a different way of thinking,” express Malukas. “We tried a lot of different setups that we normally would not do and made steady progress throughout the days.”
After qualifying ninth for Saturday’s wheel-to-wheel action, the 17-year-old chipped away at his fellow competitors and picked up three positions. Ending the first day of action with a sixth place result, the focus was shifted to Sunday to see if even more improvement could be made.
Lining up inside the fourth row for the second race on the weekend, the HMD Trucking #79 entry showed great pace while engaged in some intense on track battles. Falling back early, Malukas marched his way forward making several bold on track passes to cross the stripe in fourth.
Malukas continued, “Sunday was a good confidence boost for myself and the team. To make headway and move forward once again, we finished behind the drivers that currently sit first and second in the points and a pair of drivers that race with a multi-championship team. I am excited for Toronto to see what we can do north of the border.”
With just under three weeks off, Malukas and his BN Racing team will travel to the Streets of Toronto for rounds eight and nine of the Road to Indy ladder program.
