To finish out the year, INDY NXT by Firestone hosted three back-to-back races over the course of two weekends as the series took on the West Coast, first heading to Portland International Raceway and then closing out the season with a double-header weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca this past weekend.
After claiming his first podium finish since his win at the first race of the season, Danial left Portland eager to stand on the podium again with only two races remaining. In the only practice round of the weekend in California, Danial finished seventh, but by qualifying, he had picked up his pace and qualified third for race one and sixth for race two. During both races, passing was difficult on the 2.238-mile course and Frost finished both rounds in his starting position standing on the podium during the final event weekend of 2023.
“It was a good season,” explained Danial. “We had some issues in the middle part of the year but overcame them to make sure we were strong at the end. To have a win and additional podiums this season was great, but I am really looking forward to what may be next.”
Throughout the 2023 season, Danial experienced many highs and lows. After winning the first race of the year, the young HMD Motorsports driver had a low point where incidents due to no fault of his own and issues hindered results. However, in the final third of the season, Danial turned his performance around and began climbing in the point standings again. Heading into the final weekend, Frost sat in a three-way tie for sixth. With three strong performances, Danial took over to finish the year in sixth with one win, three podiums, and five top-five finishes.
Completing his third season of INDY NXT by Firestone competition, Danial will now look to the future as he continues to finalize his plans for the 2024 racing season.
