Radical Cup North America saw its third event of the season come and go at the lengthy 4.048-mile road course at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin this past weekend, where weather threw a wrench in the competition. Despite the weather, which included high winds, torrential downpours, and track flooding, Crown Racing with APEX still claimed five podiums out of three races between Friday and Sunday.

Chris McMurry scored the best qualifying result of the Pro 1340 Crown Racing drivers, which allowed him to start fourth in class for race one, followed by teammate Seth Bacon in fifth, and the father-son duo, Keith and Blake McGovernstarting sixth and seventh. Seth Bacons son, Jace, claimed an eighth place start in class on his return to the series, followed by Evan Wolf starting tenth and Mike Ellis starting at 14th. Jason Plotke managed to earn a fourth row start in class and overall in his return to the Radical Cup Platinum class.

Race one brought excitement with the first two podium finishes of the weekend by Chris McMurry and Blake McGovern, finishing second and third respectively. Almost beating out Blake McGovern was Jace Bacon, who had to settle for fourth, closely followed by Keith McGovern in fifth.

Race two saw a storm roll in as cars rolled onto the circuit, which was concluded in a green, white, checkered. In the end, trophies were awarded to current positions, meaning Chris McMurry stood on the third step of the podium, adding another solid result for the team. Later, a post-race penalty given to the initial winner of the Pro 1340 class upgraded McMurry to second, Jace Bacon into the final podium position in third, and Blake McGovern to fourth. Evan Wolf claimed the sixth position behind Keith McGovern in fifth. Jason Plotke also brought home a top-five time for race two in the Platinum class, his best result of the weekend.

In race three, McMurry found himself on the podium for the third time in third place, followed closely by Jace and Seth Bacon in fourth and fifth respectively. Blake and Keith McGovern both claimed top-ten results, followed by Evan Wolfe and Mike Ellis, who finished 11th and 12th.

Another exciting weekend at Road America,” explained Team Manager Joey Martin. We ran eight cars and raced against some very good teams and drivers. We had a little bit of bad luck with race incidents, but hats off to the Crown Racing crew, we got every car back in the race. A solid weekend, but we didn’t get the full results we wanted. We’ll return to Laguna Seca stronger, better, and faster.”

Crown Racing with APEX will venture to the West Coast for the next Radical Cup North America race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, from June 21-23. The team will return to California in late September, for both the Porsche Sprint Challenge and the sixth Radical Cup race of the season at Sonoma Raceway, alongside the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
