The Radical Cup North America series saw its biggest lineup to date at Barber Motorsports Park this past weekend, fielding 37 cars on the 17-turn, 2.3-mile-long road course. Returning competitors Crown Racing with APEX brought on six drivers for the 2024 race season, who brought the heat on track, taking home multiple podium results and hardware.

Blake McGovern made his name known in the Radical Cup series this weekend, scoring a trio of podiums in his debut. The recent APEX Motor Club Challenge series vice-champion took home a second-place result in all three weekend races. Although he did not appear on every podium, post-race penalties awarded the rookie a second-place podium sweep. Father of Blake McGovern, Keith, was giving his son a run for his money, claiming two third-place finishes and a total of three top-five results.

“The McGoverns had a great weekend,” Team Manager Joey Martin explains. “Blake couldn’t have asked for a better weekend to start in the series, and his father, Keith, also wowed. We knew they would be strong competitors heading into the weekend, and hopefully, they’ll keep it up through the rest of the season.”

Carl Fredrikson had a great weekend coming close to a podium, claiming one top-five result accompanied by a pair of top-ten finishes. The team’s original points leader going into the weekend, Chris McMurry, struggled to get the results this weekend with race incidents and managed to make an appearance on the podium but was later plagued by post-race penalties. Mike Ellis and Eric Griffin managed to finish amongst the top-ten in all three races.

Crown Racing with APEX leaves Barber Motorsports Park as the Team Championship point leader in the Pro 1340 class.

Tayne Griffin, the team’s sole Cayman Porsche Sprint Challenge North America driver for the weekend, accomplished two top-ten results in her series debut after qualifying ninth. The Crown Racing team hopes to expand their Porsche Sprint Challenge program throughout this year and into 2025 with the ample amount of skilled drivers coming out of APEX Motor Club.

“Along with continuing our Radical Cup North America program, we want to elevate our presence in the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America series throughout the year and into next year,” added Joey Martin. “Tayne had a great debut this weekend, and I think there’s nowhere else to go but up.”

Crown Racing with APEX will venture to Road America next for the next Radical Cup North America event on the 2024 schedule in early June. Tayne Griffin will return to the Porsche Sprint Challenge with the Crown Racing team alongside Radical Cup and the NTT INDYCAR SERIES later in June at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
