After yet another race of attrition this past weekend at Barber Motorsports Park, Christian Bogle is positioned to work his way up through the Drivers’ Championship by staying out of trouble and working his way through the field. Closing the weekend with a top-ten result, Bogle moved into the top-ten of the INDY NXT by Firestone championship point standings with the next event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway less than two weeks away.
In the opening laps of the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Alabama, Bogle was able to avoid trouble as multiple drivers were involved in minor incidents as drivers jockeyed for position, including the #7 Pelican Energy Dallara as he went three wide with Jamie Chadwick and Ernie Francis, Jr. in turn two. After briefly rubbing side pods, Bogle was able to escape without damage and continue. Moving up to 14th on the opening lap, the race was on for more positions over the 35-lap affair.
After a brief caution period at lap 15, Bogle had moved up to 12th and kept his head down for more. Through the remainder of the race, other drivers continued to have issues as Bogle soldiered on finding more speed and gaining positions throughout the race. Picking up positions all the way until the checkered flag, Bogle finished the second round of the championship with his first top-ten finish of the season in seventh, gaining a total of nine positions over the course of the race.
With a strong result under his belt, Bogle gained three positions in the championship and now sits in ninth, with only eight points separating him from the fourth-place driver.
The INDY NXT field will be back in less than two weeks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for Round 3 of the championship on Saturday, May 13.
