The European Le Mans Series made its way to Belgium and the famed Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps this past weekend for the third-to-last event of the 2024 season. Newcomer Carl Bennett, alongside his additional driving duo of Ferdinand Habsburg and Frederik Vesti, progressed as a trio in the #47 LMP2 COOL Racing machine, being only their second event together.
The driving trio found speed early on in the weekend in free practice one, sitting just outside the top-five, but were quickly caught up by the rest of the field in practice two. Qualifying set them back to a 13th place start for the four-hour race in class, which they could better by two positions at the end of the event.
“It was a tough weekend for the team,” explained Bennett. “We couldn’t find the speed for practice or qualifying but were able to move up a couple of positions in the wheel-to-wheel race. This is only my second event with the team, so there are still some kinks to work out, but hopefully, we’ll be up fighting in the front in the next one.”
Bennett will return with COOL Racing in their next ELMS event at Mugello Circuit in Italy from September 27-29 for the penultimate race event of the 2024 season. Click here for more information on the race.
