The INDY NXT by Firestone series has officially hit the halfway point of the 2024 season after this weekend’s double-header at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, their final double-header of the year. Championship contender and Rookie of the Year point leader Caio Collet impressed this weekend with two runner-up finishes, while Christian Brooks made his series debut with a pair of top-ten results.

Starting from second in both races, Collet kept it consistent, holding on to second place throughout both race one on Saturday, and race two on Sunday. Reece Gold also had a solid start to the weekend, qualifying third for the start of both races. However, both ended in heartbreak, with competitor contact taking him out of the podium contention. Myles Rowe was the highest finisher for HMD Motorsports behind Collet in race one, taking home sixth on the results table, followed by Christian Bogle in seventh, his highest finish of the 2024 season. Bogle scored an eighth-place finish in race two to add two top-ten results to his resume.

It was a newcomer to the team, Christian Brooks, who finished eighth, just behind Bogle in race one after starting 13th and earned the Josten’s Biggest Mover award, gaining five positions. To follow up with his first top-ten in the series, Brooks did one better to score a seventh-place finish in race two on Sunday. Josh Pierson had a solid drive Sunday as he climbed into the top-ten to finish ninth in race two.

Neils Koolen scored one of his best finishes of the season in Sunday’s wheel-to-wheel action crossing the finish line in 12th, while Callum Hedge took 12th in race one. Nolan Allaer had a tough weekend, first with a gear shift issue in race one, then with contact in race two. Keeping his head down on Sunday and able to learn with each passing lap, the #11 entry of Allaer earned the fourth-fastest lap of the race, just behind Hedge who clocked the third-fastest time. Jonathan Browne was also plagued by contact and penalties in both races, despite showing great pace in practice two, which netted him a P7 in the results.

HMD Motorsports will return in two weeks to run another single race event on the 13-turn, 2.258-mile road course of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course from July 5-7. Before then and later this week, HMD Motorsports will be back on track for a series test day at Iowa Speedway this coming Friday. Following Mid-Ohio, the team will return to Iowa Speedway for the first oval race of the season, July 12-14.
