BOGLE EARNS TOP-TEN RESULT ON THE STREETS OF ST. PETERSBURG

A new season for the INDY NXT by Firestone teams and competitors began this past weekend as the first green flag of the season flew on the Streets of St. Petersburg. Christian Bogle, competing out of the HMD Motorsports camp, a veteran of the series, closed his first event of 2024 with a top-ten result after qualifying on the outside of row six.

“It’s a better start than last season, and I feel much better with our program this year,” explained Bogle who finished 12th in the 2023 edition of the event, one lap behind the leaders. “We were on pace in the first practice session, and though struggled a bit in practice two, were able to qualify a little better and then gain a few positions in the race.”

After clocking the 11th fastest time in the first of two practice sessions, some changes to the #7 Pelican Energy brand machine were not to Bogle’s liking. More changes before qualifying and taking advantage of being in group two, Bogle was the sixth fastest driver in his session and when the field was brought together, would be classified 12th overall.

Returning to the track Sunday for the first wheel-to-wheel race of the season, Bogle was mired in the chaos of the middle of the pack as he worked hard to keep his nose clean and car safe during the opening few laps. With a long green flag run to start the season, a mid-race caution bunched the field back together as Bogle looked to take advantage of the closer running cars. Another caution slowed the field once again for contact from another competitor but when the field went green one last time, Bogle was able to avoid the issues around him and move forward.

Bogle continued, “There were some great battles on track, and I was able to move forward, though I would have loved a few more positions. The competition level is so tough this year as everyone is super close, every position and point will matter in the championship chase, and every tenth of a second will matter on track. It’s going to be fun.”

Finishing tenth on track, Bogle sits tenth in the championship standings with one of 14 races now in the books. A long break until round two at Barber Motorsports Park in late April will allow Bogle to continue his off-track training program as he prepares for an intense battle in INDY NXT this season.
