It was a home-state race for Black Sheep Racing (BSR) as the two-car effort descended on the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca this weekend. Competing alongside the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and Radical Cup North America program, the Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West by Yokohama series was on track for a pair of wheel-to-wheel races in which Black Sheep Racing earned a trio of podium results.

Greg Herback led the way on the Black Sheep Racing results sheet. Competing in the Cayman Masters class, Herback qualified his BSR supported Porsche in the third position for both races over the weekend, and maintained that position throughout Saturday and Sunday’s hard-fought affair.

“It was a battle out there this weekend,” explained Herback. “Racing with INDYCAR is great, but the track conditions constantly change. Another two podium results and two pieces of hardware to take home for the trophy case.”

Competing in the Porsche 992 Masters class, Laura Ely earned one podium result on Sunday, after rebounding from a disappointing seventh-place result on Saturday. Working hard to keep her name in the championship conversation, Ely stood on the third and final step of the podium Sunday after starting second in class.

“It was not the results we wanted, but still a decent close to the weekend,” added Laura Ely. “We will really need to push hard at the next event and claw back some lost points here at Laguna Seca, but I know this team and I can do it.”

Black Sheep Racing will take the six weeks between now and their next event at Road America to regroup and refocus. Looking forward to battling The Dairy State in August, Ely and Herback will take on the 14-turn, 4.048-mile facility in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
