17-year-old Athreya Ramanan is set to make his FR Americas Championship Powered by Honda series debut next weekend with Doran-Kroll Competition. As the Vice-Champion in the 2021 Formula Pro USA Western Championship and with several days of testing under his belt, Ramanan will travel to Lexington, Ohio, and the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
“We welcomed Athreya to the Doran-Kroll Competition family a while ago, but now we are welcoming him to the FR Americas program,” explained Team Owner Francois Doran. “Through his regional race program and testing under our watchful eyes, we feel he had maximized the potential and to continue his learning curve, it was time to take him to the big leagues.”
“I am super excited to compete in the FR series and looking forward to my first trip to Mid-Ohio,” added Ramanan. “It will be a steep learning curve for me, but I am up for the challenge. I am thankful to have some great teammates, and I have set realistic goals which I am confident that we can achieve by the end of the race weekend.”
Testing with Doran-Kroll Competition at Buttonwillow back in California, Ramanan showed great pace and the decision was immediately made to move up to help advance his career. Competing alongside Marco Kacic and Alex Kirby in FR Americas Championship Powered by Honda, Alex Berg, who is riding a streak of three podiums in the past four races and will also be part of the squad flying the Doran-Kroll Competition colors in the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda.
Doran continued, “Athreya will pilot the #96 entry and will look to feed off his knowledgeable teammates and experienced race team. We have shown that we can compete with some of the best and biggest East Coast programs, and we are looking forward to doing so again in Ohio.”
