Amerasian Fragrance by Absolute Racing made their Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS) debut at Sepang International Circuit this past weekend in the season’s first two rounds. The driving trio of Carl Bennett, Greg Bennett, and Chris Van der Drift had their fair share of action, both good and bad.
The weekend started with two practice sessions on Friday as the Amerasian Fragrance by Absolute Racing claimed the top speed in class for practice one. A decent qualifying run on Saturday in their Ferrari 296 GT3 placed them in 14th for the start of race one, but after a clean start with a jump to eighth, the #23 was involved in an incident. With the damage terminal, the Ferrari was sidelined for the rest of the race, ending their inaugural run of the season. Ready to make a comeback in race two Sunday afternoon, the trio climbed to finish 21st from their start near the back of the grid.
“Ultimately, we wish the weekend would have turned out better,” explained Carl Bennett. “Unfortunately, incidents happen, and it’s how you come back from them that matters. Our crew did amazing this weekend; I really have to thank them for their hard work. We’ll regroup and come back ready to do better in February.”
Carl Bennett and the rest of the Amerasian Fragrance by Absolute Racing crew will take a two-month hiatus before closing the Asian Le Mans Series in back-to-back race weekends. Kicking the series back off at the Dubai Autodrome in early February for the third and fourth rounds of the season, Bennett and the team will end their campaign at the final two rounds at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi the weekend of February 15.
