The month of May in Indianapolis means at least one race nearly every weekend of the month. One more popular race leading up the 107th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Presented by Gainbridge was the Carb Night Classic at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. This year, veteran driver Evagoras Papsavvas came to compete.
Hovering around to the top of the charts all weekend long, Papasavvas, a member of the Jay Howard Driver Development (JHDD) team, was hoping to clutch his first pole position of the year followed by a victory. After showing incredible potential on Thursday, Evagoras secured the second-fastest lap in qualifying, just sixteen-thousandths of a second away from the fastest two-lap average and pole position and would line up on the front row start for the Freedom 75 that followed on Friday night.
“We had a great qualifying,” explained Papasavvas. “It was looking like we would get the pole position for a bit there but we’re in a great place to start tomorrow. Going to try to get a jump at the green flag and hopefully bring home a win.”
As Friday evening rolled around, perfect weather set the scene for a night race under the lights. As the green flag flew, Papsavvas took off defending his second-place qualifying position as he tried to challenge for the lead. One yellow flag and 75 hard-raced laps later, the JHDD driver brought home second place for the Indiana-based team and leveled up to third in the USF2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires points chase.
“I just want to thank the Jay Howard Driver Development team for always giving me a race-winning car,” Papasavvas continued. “We’re heading in the right direction as we go through the season, just have to keep pushing to stay on top. This weekend will add some much-needed points in the championship standing and will hopefully move us up a spot or two.”
It won’t be long before Evagoras Papasavvas and the rest of the JHDD team will return on track at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, from June 15th through the 18th. Stay tuned to the Evagoras Papasavvas Racing social media pages for more news, information, photos, and results.
